On the other hand, Refine Sesame Oil is derived after the virgin oil goes into the ‘oil refinery’. In the oil refinery, the virgin oil is treated by a heating process, by which the natural flavor and color are removed from the oil and preservatives is added to this oil. The benefit is Refine Sesame oil has a high smoke point so it is more suitable for everyday cooking and deep-frying.

(A)   No, another type of oil is mixed in BNB Sesame oil. BNB brand is known for its purity. BNB Refined Sesame oil is made directly from Virgin Sesame oil after going through the refining process. In the refining process, only FSSAI permitted food preservatives are added.

No other type of oil is mixed in BNB Refine Oil.

It is not good, not healthy and not advisable to mix any two types of edible oil together because each oil has its own characteristics and its own heat point.  

A: The only difference between virgin sesame oil and black virgin sesame oil is the seeds. Black sesame oil is extracted only from black sesame seeds. Virgin sesame oil is extracted from a mix of any one or more sesame seeds like – white sesame, black sesame, red-brown sesame, etc.

The difference between the two types of seeds is their outer layer. The black ones are Dehulled (with outer cover). The black sesame seed is richer in calcium and used widely because of its ayurvedic importance for ages.

(A)  A person can distinguish between the two types of oil by physical properties. Refined sesame oil  (a) is much lighter in color compared to virgin sesame oil which is slightly dark ; (b) refined sesame oil is neutral in flavor while virgin sesame oil has a nutty taste of sesame seeds.

Thus, the nutritional value in both oils is very different. Virgin sesame oil has a low smoke point so it cannot be used in daily cooking or deep frying. Refine has a high smoke point so it’s best for daily cooking and deep-frying.

Examples of seeds/oil seeds are sunflower seed, mustard seed, sesame seed, etc.
Examples from fruits/parts of fruits are olive, palm, corn, etc. oil from fruits/parts of fruits are also known as Vegetable Fats.
In common usage, vegetable oil may refer exclusively to vegetable fats which are liquid at room temperature.

So only in the case of olive oil, there is an extra process involved which can be termed as extra Virgin, else, not for other oils.

(A)   Virgin oil is made from pure, cold-pressed method of pressure extraction, by a vertical or horizontal form of pressing. BNB virgin sesame oil is 100% pure, chemical-free, sulphate free, free of heavy metal, sesame oil. The best quality of virgin oil is only pressed once. The oil derived from pressing the oilseed once only is the best quality of virgin oil. Virgin oil is never mixed or blended with any other oil. Virgin oil is pale in colour and has a lighter fragrance than roasted oil, but it still has a rich flavour.

BNB Roasted sesame oil is made from highly selected sesame seeds which are very well cleaned and then lightly roasted in special machines. Customers from different countries prefer different kinds of roasting – mild, medium, hard etc. The temperature or time of roasting can change its flavour and colour. Rest of the oil extraction process is similar to the extraction of virgin sesame oil. In this case, the heat of the roasting process breaks down the ingredients in the sesame seeds, giving it a distinctive flavour and scent. For example lightly roasted, resulting in an amber-brown colour and mild, elegant flavour.

(A)   For seasoning purpose its best to use BNB Virgin Sesame Oil. A small amount of sesame oil can be sprinkled on any dish to enhance its flavor. (A)  No, sesame is not a GM crop in India. GM stands for ‘Genetically Modified’ crops (GM crops) are plants used in agriculture. In GM crops the DNA is modified using genetic engineering methods. In most cases, the aim is to introduce a new trait to the plant which does not occur naturally in the species. But there are very few crops to date which are successful GM Crops and Sesame is not among them.

(A)   There are two types of processes involved in refining oil; one is physical refining and the other is chemical refining of oils. Chemical refining method uses chemicals at high temperatures to remove FFA in the refining process which is harmful to our body whereas in Physical Refining a new process is applied known as the Degumming process in which FFA is removed in the deodorization process by steam. Because no chemicals are used in physical refining for removing FFA it is always better and much healthy than the chemical refining of oils.

(A)   In BNB we do not even have the machinery, infrastructure or process to do any kind of solvent extraction of oil. Solvent extraction is the use of very harmful chemicals to forcefully extract oil from seed/fruits/leftovers like oil cake etc. This process of solvent extraction involves treating oil with further chemicals at high temperatures that degrade the quality of cooking oil.

(A)  BNB does not use any toxic chemicals in its refining process. Only permitted antioxidants are used as a food preservative in refining. Almost 95% to 98% of BNB total annual production is exported worldwide to various countries i.e. USA, Mexico, Europe, Middle East, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, China, etc. These countries do not accept any toxic chemicals so the same oil is packed and marketed in India by BNB.

(A)  Sesame oil is widely used all over South East Asia as a prominent cooking oil. In India, Sesame Oil is used for cooking predominantly in South India, where people use it vigorously used in hot and cold cooking.  

(A)  Cold pressed oil means that the oil was pressed using a mechanical method. However, unlike when normal processing is done, no high temperatures is used during the pressing process to help the oil retain its natural healthy nutrients. When the oil is cold-pressed, the temperatures during the pressing process never exceed 30 degrees Celsius (room temperature). Cold-pressed oil is considered to be the best quality oil. It is excellent for cooking and baking and is also a fantastic health supplement, for skin and hair care product. Cold-pressed oil is far more expensive and much healthier. Cold-pressed oil has a naturally longer shelf life.
In the hot press process, the oilseeds is heated or heat is applied within the expeller machine. The hot press process is done at higher temperatures, typically above 98-degree celsius, which de-grades the quality of the oil and requires further processing methods such as bleaching and deodorizing.

(A)  Filtering is done immediately after the extraction of oil. This filtering is done horizontally by passing through various filters by force. Then this filtered oil goes into a sedimentation tank where the solid particles are allowed to be settled in the settling tank. This is called a complete filtration process.

(A)  BNB brand does not manufacturer any ‘solvent extracted’ oil. BNB does not have the machinery for making ‘solvent extracted’ oil. Solvent extraction or solvent extraction oil is not good for health since many chemicals are used during the extraction process of oil. (A)   Though it is difficult to re-cycle cooking oil in India it is often sold. The small-time traders on the street who buy old/broken goods or old clothes, also buy oil burnt or used cooking oil.

This used oil usually goes to bio-fuel makers or exporters of such oil. Used oil can also go to plants making animal feed. But in no case should this oil be poured down drains at home as it clogs pipes and becomes an environmental hazard, polluting local bodies of water.
